I posted on the blog’s Facebook page last night that yesterday, Labor Day, was pretty much my perfect day.
After a whirlwind trip to Minnesota for an amazing night out celebrating my bestie, I got home Sunday night and planned to spend that evening reading a book, snuggling the cats, and maybe watching a movie. I promptly fell asleep at 6:30. With the exception of a few times when the terrible storm we were getting woke me up, I slept through the night and didn’t wake until 8:30 yesterday morning. Apparently I was tired.
I planned to use yesterday as a day to get tons done around the house. But even after so much sleep, I was still feeling pretty tired. I figured it wasn’t worth overdoing it, so I promised myself that I could read a chapter in the book I had started Sunday night for every project I completed.
That quickly morphed into reading a few chapters for every partial project I completed but whatever. It was a day off afterall.
Even with my modified schedule, I’m still happy with everything that got done. The kitchen cupboards are rearranged; the coffee station is moved; the pantry was vacuumed, wiped out, and put back together in a more logical way; and the counters and stove were simply scrubbed clean. The living room was straightened, dusted, and vacuumed. The bathroom was wiped down; the linen closet organized; my jewelry hooks (which fell down months ago) were rehung and my necklaces were untangled and hung up again. I washed all of my bedding and towels, as well as four additional loads of laundry. I even hung some pictures in the guest bedroom that I hadn’t gotten around to doing previously.
Sheesh. That sounds like a lot.
It doesn’t feel like a lot though because I also managed to spend hours snuggling with the girls. And I finished the book I had started Sunday night before drifting off to sleep last night. And it was a good one.
As much as laying in bed doing nothing sounds amazing on a day off, I hate wasting days like that altogether. Such a nice feeling to know I’m starting my week off more caught up on my life. Work is a bit crazy right now and when that happens, either my personal life or my house suffer. So far it had been my house. Tackling some of those big projects ensures I’m starting my week off in much better shape.
It was truly my perfect day off.
